For over 250 years Walter de Gruyter has published scholarly books in philosophy, theology, literature, natural science, semiotics, linguistics, and mathematics. The origins of the bookseller date back to 1749 when it was given the right to print books by King Frederick II of Prussia.[1]

Mouton de Gruyter is one of the leading publishers in Europe specializing in the field of linguistics. It publishes journals, research monographs, reference works, multimedia publications, and bibliographies. It was formerly known as Mouton Publishers, based in The Hague, The Netherlands. Mouton is now a division of Walter de Gruyter, but retains an imprint of its own.
