The most important thing for beginners looking to enter web3 or the blockchain/DLT space is choosing the appropriate web3 wallet. To determine what the best option would be for you the first step in determining what wallet offer the most seamless onboarding and user experience. As a beginner user here are a few things that all web3 wallets will have in common and that you should be aware of:

What are seed phrases and private keys?

When you create any web3 wallet, one of the first prompts the wallet will have you make is noting down the seed phrase and private key. This is the most important step to ensure that you keep access to your account in case you lose the device your wallet is stored on. The series of words of the seed phrase and the long alphnumerical phrase from your private key will serve you as your main way of recovering you wallet in the case you change / lose your device or you would like to import your wallet to another device. Example: I have my web3 wallet on my browser and I would like to have it on my phone as well. IMPORTANT: Never share your private keys with anyone and it is recommended to keep them in a physical form.

The next question most beginners might have when they first get a web3 wallet is what the wallet address is. Most blockchain / DLTs will have different structures but for my preferred wallet, which is the HashPack wallet on the Hedera Hashgraph network, the structure that the network uses is 0.0.XXXXXX (X are randomly generated numbers). This address will be the way that you send and receive tokens into your wallet. You can think of it like an email address for web3.

Now that I have set the stage for the two most important information pieces that you will get when creating your first web3 wallet, we can get back to the main question of the post.

What is the best web3 wallet for beginners?

My personal favorite is the HashPack wallet as previously mentioned. The reasons why I believe it is the easiest wallet to start using as a beginner are the following:

Once you have created the wallet, you can purchase your HBAR or USDC token directly in-app through the BUY botton on the top right corner. Once you click on that you will have the option of purchasing web3 with your credit card or bank transfer through their Banxa / MoonPay integration. This is all 100% safe and you can do your own research on both on-ramp providers by looking them up on Google.
You can start interacting with all the different dApps on the Hedera network directly in-app. Through the dApp browser window, you can access the best and most secure applications on the Hedera network. They have an application process for each application that is featured on their app so the use of each application is 100% safe.
You can interact with Hedera’s DeFi (decentralized finance) platform directly in wallet by leveraging the powerful swap feature on the swap window in your HashPack wallet and start earning rewards by staking your HBAR tokens on the stake tab.
