What is a synapse?

 

A synapse is the location of intercellular communication. Every synapse has components associated with two cells: the presynaptic neuron and the postsynaptic neuron. The presynaptic neuron is the cell that sends the message, while the postsynaptic neuron is the cell that receives the message.
