"What is the frequency, Kenneth?" is associated with Dan Rather.
In October 1986, Dan Rather was attacked on the street by one or
two men who yelled, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?" It remains a
mystery as to what the phrase means.
In 1994, William Tager confessed to the attack on Dan Rather
when he was arrested for the killing of an NBC technician near the
stage of the Today Show.
Later, this phrase became the inspiration for the song, "What's
the Frequency, Kenneth?" by REM
