When Hine was a chorister at Magdelen College he served as a clerk. He went to London and studied with Jeremiah Clarke shortly thereafter becoming a deputy to Stephen Jeffries with the promise that Hine would become the organist. When Jeffries died Hine acceded to the position. Compositions by Hine and William Hayes were often conflated in part because of the families close associations. Part of his posthumous collection rightly included "Harmonia sacra Glocestriensis, or, Select Anthems for 1, 2, and 3 voices," and an organ voluntary. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
