Josephine Baker technically did not really change her name. Her original name was Freda McDonald. Josephine went by her middle name which was Josephine. Her last name changed when she married her second husband, Willie Baker. So that is why she is known as Josephine Baker. I'm doing a report on her in schools for Black History month, I know a bunch a bout her. Any other questions about her, ask me.

I don't know who originally sung it - but I have heard it. My brother-in-law in in a country band and they play and sing it - always getting requests for it. But I can't find it on Youtube, except where a couple of people are singing it, and it's poor quality, but it is the song - goes: "Hey Willie Baker, now where have did you go, I lost a friend who knew the way, and now I'm on my own...." (something like that) Is that the one you mean?
