Because it would be hard to make one big enough, and since they
are so big, if they did make a winch, the force might break the
plane, and if it was slow enough to not break it(wait, break is for
smaller thing, right?), it would be about the same as a regular
takeoff. And most gliding planes do not have a power source (and if
they do, it's not usually used for takeoff, just when they are
going too slow, or something.) so usually they are towed by another
plane (or winch launched.)
