Amsterdam has two universities. One is the UvA, which stands for Universiteit van Amsterdam, the other one is the VU, which stands for Vrije Universiteit. I don't think these words need any translation. Most of the buildings of the UvA are in the city center, it's law faculty is located about 500 meters from the red light district. Personally I grade the Vrije Universiteit the better of the two. I've heard that the UvA is not very well organized. Information about studying in the Netherlands can be obtained thru NUFFIC (http://www.nuffic.nl/).
