Mr Darwin believed that the observations he made provided support for his theory of evolution. Darwin proposed that the finches on the island are all the offspring of an original pair of finches, and that natural selection is responsible for the differences. He believed that the finches would change gradually in response to gradual changes in the vegetation (flora), whereas they actually change very quickly, and back, without any evolutionary progress, as documented by Peter Grant's 18 year research project. Darwin observed that the variation between tortoises on different islands was a disproof of the fixity of species, and took this as a disproof of creation.

Nobody Knows. The Galapagos Islands are a tricky biome. Like any island, the Galapagod Islands do not have any specific biome. The closest any scientist and gotten to the specific biome is Tropical Rainforest.
