The Whiskey Rebellion was a tax protest in the Colonies against Britain that began in 1791 and was the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The United States sent out more troops than they could afford, and in 1789 began taxing distilled spirits in the United States as a luxury tax to pay back the debt owed to other countries.
