the knock could coe from a few places, if it is in fact a "knock" it could be a piston rod, if its more of a tapping comming from the top of the motor you could have a loose rocker arm, if it is a loose rocker arm i would suggest tightening them up if it stops and comes back i would replace the lifters
A 1987 Chevy Caprice Classic with the original engine does have a carb and the engine is a 305, because I have one. This can have a 307. I have an 87 Caprice Estate Wagon, with a 5.0 liter 307 olds. Which, is actually for sale.
What is the engine in the Caprice? In the Suburban? If they are a 305/350 then they can be interchanged. I have a 1985 Caprice Classic with a 305 and the tranny came out of a 1987 Suburban. It depends on the engine.
What's the color code on a 1987 Chevy Caprice classic brougham

Yes
No, the Mazda E2200 engine is not compatible with a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, as they are from different manufacturers and designed for different vehicle platforms. The Caprice typically comes with a range of Chevy engines, such as the 305 or 350 V8. Installing a Mazda engine would require extensive modifications to the engine mounts, transmission, and electronics, making it impractical for most applications.
