Check the fuel pump fuse and relay. Check to see if the fuel pump has failed.
Check the fuel filter to see if it is clogged. Check the fuel lines for leakage, especially rubber flexible lines. Check the fuel line for blockage or crimps.
The fuel filter on a 1987 Chevy Celebrity is next to the fuel tank on the driver's side of the car/
There isn't one. GM uses a different function for cutting off the fuel pump. No oil pressure, no fuel pressure..
The fuel pressure should be 45 psi.
I would suspect low fuel pressure would cause both conditions.
There is no MAF on a 1987 Chevy 2.5L engine.
The fuel pressure should be 45 psi .
The filter is on the drivers side under the car near the fuel tank.
From the 1987 model year through the end of production in the 1990 model all engines were fuel injected.
Hard starting on a fuel injected engine is often caused by low fuel pressure. The fuel pressure should be 45 psi. Low pressure might be caused by a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. Low pressure can also be caused by leaks in the fuel system.
My 1987 Chevy Celebrity with 2.8 V6 was doing the same thing. I cured the problem by replacing three dead fuel injectors.
It is in the throttle body.
Check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. If it fails it can allow fuel to enter the manifold via the vacuum hose.
