1987 F250 6.9liter Diesel and the temperature gauge pegs hot and check engine light comes on but the engine is not hot. Changed the temperature sensor thermostat and the temperature gauge.?

Check to see if you have two sensors. One closer to the water pump on the top toward the front. This is the gauge connection on a 7.3. The second is on the drivers side between the valve cover and the exhaust manifold close to the front of the motor. (about 15/16ths deep socket) When that sensor says I'm hot the gauge pegs and the check engine light comes on. I experienced this myself very recently. part number: Standard ts-374 or wells tu96
