The 10th digit is "N" and this should mean it is a 1992. I got this info from http://www.answers.com/Vehicle%identification%20number. I've been researching my 230 Quadsport vin JSAAJ43A0F2112141 to get all the info possible so I order the correct parts for it.
The 1987 230 was a four stroke. They had several variations including a quad sport with a manual clutch. They were very strong quads, I regretted parting with mine in a trade for a king quad 4x4. I liked the lighter 230s much better. Take care.
