I find that the tacks are not usually bad. The Problem is the fly wheel sensor atached to the transmission houseing. This picks up rotation RPM's of the fly wheel ,sending the information to a control unit that controls the tack. The pick up unit can get dirty with oil and dirt or metal particles from stater gear, or the fly wheel [ring gear] can becomedirty enough that the pick up magnet does not make a signal. Also check the wireing for this unit to make sure ,no breaks or bare spots that can contack metal. Before doing all those things check your fuzes. Those old type fuzes may be alright but get cruddy over time and need moving around some to make contack. Sure hope Iwas able to help.
The A/C relay, A.K.A. the KLIMA relay, is located behind the battery next to the firewall. It is a little black box that plugs in next to the OVP relay.
Near the right rear tire
The fuel pump relay on a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300E is located on the passenger side, near the firewall, by the battery. Mercedes-Benz was founded in 1926.

The blower motor resistor on a Mercedes 300e is located beneath the blower motor on the Mercedes 300e, if ever it needs replacing.
Behind the battery their is a black plastic cover. remove it and the relay is called MAS. Un screw the relay and match the numbers when you get another. Make sure its the relay by checking for 12v at the A/C compressor.
