1996 cavalier Z24. why is front end wearing out tires very fast and making sounds?

First, remember that it is 14y/o this being Mid 2010. There are a few things at home to check for worn parts. There are 2 rubber bushings,and a ball joint on the lower control arm and a tie rod that is connected on the top side between the rack & pinion and steering knuckle. BUT,...Raise the two fronts off the ground. (PLACE ON JACKSTANDS PLACED OFF THE CONTROL ARMS). Grab the tire at 3 and 9 o,clock,now twist violently and feel if there is any play anywhere.Do the same at 12 and 6 o'clock also.There is a upper strut bearing on the tops of both sides.When they start wearing out they will make this strange popping sound every now and then when you are turning the wheel.(so look there, too.) This front end is pretty basic. Have the wheels "lined up". It cost me 40 bucks for that. Not bad since its saving my tires. The alignment person will find any problems , and probably just pay a rack fee and a promise to bring it back when you get done replacing parts.. BUT what I'm saying is "put it on the rack" and look for yourself. That's the only way your going to find out for sure. Could even be a hub bearing.
