To change the clutch on a 1997 Peugeot 306 GTI, first, disconnect the battery and lift the vehicle securely. Remove the transmission by unbolting it from the engine and detaching the drive shafts. Replace the old clutch and pressure plate with the new ones, ensuring they are properly aligned. Finally, reassemble the transmission, reconnect all components, and test the clutch operation before lowering the vehicle.
To replace the clutch on a Peugeot 306, first, disconnect the battery and remove the gear lever for access. Then, lift the car and remove the front wheels, drive shafts, and gearbox mounting bolts. After lowering the gearbox, remove the old clutch from the flywheel, clean the surface, and install the new clutch, ensuring proper alignment. Finally, reassemble by reversing the disassembly steps, ensuring all components are securely fastened.
The switch next to the clutch pedal on a Peugeot 306 (W-reg) is typically a clutch pedal position switch. It is primarily used to signal the engine management system when the clutch is depressed, allowing functions such as starting the engine or enabling cruise control. This switch can also be involved in safety features, preventing the vehicle from being started unless the clutch is fully engaged. If malfunctioning, it may cause issues with starting the car or activating certain features.
To change the clutch on a Peugeot 306, start by disconnecting the battery and removing the transmission. You'll need to support the engine and remove the gearbox, which involves detaching various components like the driveshafts and gear linkage. Once the gearbox is out, unbolt the old clutch from the flywheel, clean the surface, and install the new clutch plate and pressure plate. Finally, reassemble by reversing the disassembly process, ensuring all connections are secure before testing the vehicle.
You sure the start motor hasn't failed? I have the same problem on my 306.
After doing some checks, there doesn't seem to be one! The system is activated either automatically by differential temperature between the inside and the outside, or manually from a push button on the dash. This operates an electrical clutch on the compressor, which is driven from the drive belt.

I have just replaced a clutch on a 806 svdt and it was easy with the haynes manual but i did it at home and the clutch cable on the cars made after 1994 are self adjusting but this is only while the original clutch is slowly wearing out. when you replace the clutch you effect the cable and clutch position and cause the clutch cable not to self adjust because it doesn't adjust if there is no resistance.this can only be achieved by a trained technician.I had to pay 90 for a mechanic to come out and do this for me.I also had to buy alot of new washes, bolts and seals to replace the old ones.look into how much it will cost to have it done by a local mechanic before you attempt to do it yourself as they will be 30 to 40 percent cheaper than a peugeot dealer and you will save even more if you buy the clutch kit yourself first.good luck brian Further Info Haynes manual a must. Problems found when trying to remove the Allen bolts that hold gear box to engine. Allen keys too springy and risk rounding the heads, buy a set that fit a 1/2" drive ratchet especially an 8mm. Also difficult to remove right hand drive shaft from intermediate bearing. Bottom ball joints held in again by Allen bolts, very poor access to get a key in. Mine were rounded so had to grind them off and replace with height tensile nuts and bolts. Undo the front drive shaft nuts at the hubs before you take the wheels off, they are so tight. Good luck if you do attempt it.Pete
To adjust the headlights on a Peugeot 306, park the vehicle on a level surface facing a wall about 10-15 feet away. Turn on the headlights and mark the center of the beam on the wall with tape. Use a screwdriver to adjust the vertical and horizontal screws located on the headlight assembly until the beam aligns with the marked points. Make sure to check both headlights to ensure they are properly aligned.
