This could be as simple as one of the door switches being faulty, but I've never seen one fail in the "ON" position.
I suspect that it's the lamp dimmer module. I have a similar problem in my '96. When I turn off and leave the car, the dome light stays on for only 4 seconds. Not really enough time to make it up my porch steps before it goes out. When the passenger side is the last one exited however, the dome light stays on for a minute or two. Go figure.
I've searched Google and found that the dimmer module is available, but so far, I haven't been able to find out where it's located in the car.
Maybe one of the others can help us out.
