Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
The check engine light comes on when the engine computer has detected a malfunction and set a trouble code.
It allows the OBD II scanner to connect to your Ford Explorer to " read " any trouble codes when the check engine light comes on for one thing
If the check engine light is flashing that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected
I assume it is the same as the 1998 Ford Explorer four door : There is a " CHECK GAGE " light ( just to the left and above the tachometer ) The light comes on if the engine coolant temperature is too HIGH , the engine oil pressure is too LOW , or the gas gauge is at or near empty
Take it to advance auto and they will do it for free.
In a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac : The CHECK " GAGE " warning light comes on if the the oil pressure is too low , the engine cooling temperature is too high , or the gas tank gauge is near or at empty
The light that shows an engine symbol is your check engine light . If the light stays on while the engine is running, the OBD II system has detected a possible problem with your emission system. If the light flashes on and off, an engine "miss" has been detected . Have your Explorer scanned for any trouble codes to find and then repair the problem.
You use a scan tool after repairing the cause of the code that turned the light on.
It indicates that your battery is not being charged and that you need to have the electrical system checked.
Im guessing there is something wrong with your car!
A check engine light informs you that there is something wrong with the engine. After you run a diagnostic test, you will be able to tell what exactly is wrong.
On a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac , 4.0 ( the engine oil pump is INSIDE the engine oil pan )
