Check the shift unlock solenoid. The solenoid is known to go bad and cause this issue in a tracer.
your shift interlock is broken. Use a paperclip or screw driver to by pass it. Its that circle by the side of the gearshift. pry it up and press it down with either the screwdriver or paper clip
No, on most newer cars you also have to press the brake pedal to shift out of Park.
If it works like the one in my '94To set it: in park press the pedal to the floor. To release it press the regular break pedal and shift out of park.
the brake interlock press on the brake to release it
You have to step on the brake pedal to shift to any gear from "Park"
When I asked how much it would cost to replace the gear shift light on a Toyota Echo, I was quoted about $100 from the dealership! (Most of the cost is labor).
check your brake lights if they not worhing replace fuse or brake light switch
no, you should have to press the brake to shift out of park
It could be a fuse. If the brake lights do not turn on when you press the brake pedal check your fuses under your dash.
do not put any pressure on shift lever until brake is pushed. also lift shift lever directly up when placing into reverse.
Find the switch attached to the brake pedal for the shift interlock and jump the two wires together. Be careful not to disconnect the brake light switch
There SHOULD be a switch on the brake pedal that disengages the gear shift locking solenoid. Once you press on the brake pedal, the gear shift should move easily. If not, either the switch or solenoid has failed, or one of them is out of adjustment.
