Go to the auto parts store and look up the make and model of your car.
Find the bulb in the isle indicated.
Buy the bulb.
Remove the four Phillips screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
Replace the bad bulb with the good bulb recently purchased.
Put red cover back on, tighten the four Phillips screws.
Throw away bad bulb.

The 1997 Pontiac brake light fuse is located in the fuse box. The brake light fuse will be labeled as the tail light fuse.
Brake light switch has quit working. It won't be the fuses, as there is most likely a separate fuse for the high mount stop lamp.

The red brake light on the dash means that the brake fluid is low or the parking brake is on.

If the brake light in your dash is on , either the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL in the brake master cylinder in your engine compartment is LOW or your parking brake is on
