Generally, a blinking DRL indicator on the dash means that there is
a headlight burned out. Replacing them is cheap and easy.
On my 98 sunfire, the tail lights and marker lights only work if you turn on the headlights. If only the daytime lights are on, the Pontiac on the trunk is illuminated but no other lights at the rear until brakes or turn signals are activated. This is common with a lot of vehicles out there. Daytime running lights are not necessarily the same candle power as the headlights. I can tell a big difference in mine.
yes thay do have DTR on a 1995 sunfire
Had the same problem. Found it to be a bad ground wire for the headlights. There are two ground wires for the headlights, both are directly below the battery. You can see one of them if you remove the drivers side headlight. It is right behind the radiator hose. The other is a few inches from that one.
fuse box on the inside of the car, driver side
No, it's not normal. Some 2003 Vibe's have automatic headlights triggered by a light sensor. If you leave the headlight switch in the middle setting between "on" and "off" they will come on by themselves when it's dark. If you turn them off the daytime running lights will still come on and the high beams will still work but the headlights won't come on automatically at night.
yes, they are always on. as in most gm vehicles they have daytime running lights.
I am having the same problem with a 1994 model. The high beam indicator is also on. I believe it is related to the daytime running lights because when I turn on the headlights the lights get brighter. As I understand it daytime running lights are the highbeams at about 50% power. I need to find where that relay is and test/replace it. wish me luck...
What you're seeing is not your headlights. They are your Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs'). They are a great safety feature, making you much more visible to other drivers.
I am presently having the same problem on my '97 sunfire. According to the wiring diagram, the daytime running lights are actually just the highbeams running in series. For whatever reason, I don't have a driver side high beam either. I assumed it was the relay, but I might be mistaken. Where is the darn relay located anyway? the relay is in the fuse box inside the car on the drivers side door panel
u have a blown headlight. change both bulobs and it will stop.
If it's just a round flashing light that has no indication as to it's meaning, it's probably the Daytime Running Light indicator. It's only on when the headlights are OFF. If it's flashing, it generally means that one of your DRL's has burned out.
I have a similar problem in my 98 sunfire, my Highbeams wont turn on and i have replaced the bulbs. Also had the same problem in a 98 Pontiac trans sport minivan. It is an electrical issue with a lot of GM pontiacs. There is a fuse located somewhere near the heating unit which controls your lights. Your guess is as good as mine why they decided to place a fragile fuse next to the heater. If your lucky, you wern't driving on a mountain side in Banff Alberta when your highbeams craped out at 10pm. I had my heat blasting because it was cold, the heat killed the fuse which shut my lights off. The fuse was about $30 i believe, put it in myself. - Ryan b
