To change the 3.8-liter engine in a 1998 Pontiac Firebird, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the engine coolant and oil. Remove the necessary components, including the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, and wiring harness, then detach the engine from the transmission using a hoist. Once everything is disconnected, lift the engine out, and replace it with the new or rebuilt engine, ensuring all connections are properly reattached. Finally, refill fluids, reconnect the battery, and start the engine to check for any issues.
