I am having the same problem with my 2000 GMC Safari. The Service Engine Soon light is on some time. Can any one explain this issue please.
The map sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor) in a Pontiac Bonneville measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. This information is crucial for the engine control unit (ECU) to determine the air density and calculate the correct fuel-to-air ratio for optimal combustion. By providing real-time data, the MAP sensor helps improve engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to poor engine performance and increased fuel consumption.
If you are lucky it may be the crankshaft pulley. sometimes they break and make a lot of noise. But, if it is making a metal in the engine kind of noise it may be time to look for a new car.

No - the gauge reports 'real-time' the engine temperature. If it is wrong, there is a problem with the sending unit on the engine. This is a pretty easy fix...
Most of the time it is because the water pump is going out and it is leaking where the pulley is on the engine.
