AS YOU KNOW FUEL PUMP IS IN TANK. first relieve fuel pressure in system, next siphon gas out of car if you can, drop fuel tank by undoing the tank straps,to replace fuel pump, when the tank is out, elec, wires remove ring on tank that holds pump in with snap ring pliers! remove negative cable from battery before starting!
Fuel pumps have been installed inside fuel tanks for decades. The fuel filter is there too.
Fuel cut off/ Inertia switches are a Ford/ Mazda feature only. The only type of fuel shut off switch on a 97 Malibu is the ignition lock and key. If you're trying to find this switch because the car won't start and it has no fuel pressure then its not too unlikely that the fuel pump may be bad. They die all the time on Malibu, Alero and Grand Am.
It is inside the fuel tank. The fuel pump contains the fuel filter too.
The problem is probably a bad fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump. The part is not sold separately and the entire pump will have to be replaced. Otherwise, it could be a problem with the fuel injectors, which cost about $80 a piece.
That usually happens when the pump is turned too far in the tank and the float is hitting the side of the tank. That usually happens when the pump is turned too far in the tank and the float is hitting the side of the tank.
Yes it could. If the fuel pressure is too low, the system can set a fuel system lean trouble code.
I know I saw a routing diagram in the engine compartment of my 2000 Chevy Malibu. Yours should have it too unless too worn. I think it is near the belts/front of car.
its probally your fuel regulator, cheaper and easier than your fuel pump too!
It is not required, but it would help the life of your new fuel pump
Could be a plugged fuel filter or damaged/plugged catalytic converter. If the check engine light is or has illuminated check for codes.
A good guess would be in the fuel tank. That's where it is in my 2000. I just changed mine it was not too difficult I got a new one at Advance for $150.
There is a fuel pump relay too and its located under the dash below the steering wheel. There is also a fuel pump fuse.
