New lock assembly from junkyard or Ford. I've replaced 3 of these all pulled parts from a junkyard. there are only 3 screws on the inside door panel that need to be taken off, then disassemble the inside parts and pull it out/replace it. A make/model repair manual may help, I got my advice from a Ford Tech.

On a 2000 Ford Explorer : In the fuse panel IN the drivers end of the dash ( the fuse panel cover is visible with the drivers door open ) ( # 17 is a 25 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter )
My 1995 Ford Explorer XLT has the keyless entry pad on the drivers door
According to the 2000 Ford Explorer owners manual : ( # 17 is a 25 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter ) Located in the fuse panel in the drivers end of the dash , the fuse panel cover is visible with the drivers door open
I`ts the 7.5amp fuse #12 in the panel on side of dash(drivers door).
On my ( 1995 ) Ford Explorer XLT the power door lock relays ( 3 relays ) are in with the tire jack , behind the removable plastic panel on the drivers side of the cargo area . I assume your 2000 would be the same . There are ( 3 ) relays : - all door lock - all door unlock - drivers door unlock
