problably your crank positioning sensor, on the front of motor, behind crank pulley. about a $40.00 dollar part. good luck

I'm not a mechanic / technician , but if you mean the 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine , I would say ( no ) From what I have read there are ( 3 ) different engine blocks for the Ford 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine ( which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ) ( 1991 to 1994 Ford Explorer ) ( 1995 and 1996 Ford Explorer ) ( 1997 to 2000 Ford Explorer )

look for a loose vacuum line.
( Yes ) there were 3 engines available in the 2000 Ford Explorer ( depending on the model ) A 4.0L Single Over Head Cam V6 engine ( the 4.0L Over Head Valve V6 engine was still available in the base model ) A 5.0L Over Head Valve design V8 engine
you dont its dead you blew a head gasket check your oil it has water in it .Type your answer here...

In a 2000 Ford Explorer : Both the 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine ( which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ) and the 4.0 liter , Single Over Head Cam , V6 engine take : ( 5.0 U.S. quarts / 4.7 liters of 5W-30 engine oil )
Depending on the model of 2000 Ford Explorer : The 4.0 liter SOHC ( single over head cam ) V6 ( the 8th " character " of the VIN is an " E " ) The 4.0 liter OHV ( over head valve / pushrod design ) V6 , VIN " X " or The 5.0 liter V8 which is also an over head valve / pushrod design ( VIN " P " )
