Are you sure you have a 2.0 engine in your 2004 Optima? The 2.4 Liter 4 cylinder engine requires the cam belt be replaced at 60,000 miles except in a California certified car, which is replaced at 105,000 miles. WARNING: This is an "Interference" engine, and if the belt breaks severe engine damage will occur.True that!!!! Yes, it's definutely a 2.4 I am replacing the timing belt at 82000 mi and there are teeth all over the place after removing the timing cover. OMG!!! Talk about timing!!! Change that belt at no later then 60000 mi OR have it done by the dealer or a good shop.
No, this engine uses a timing chain.
