I had a similar problem while out of town so I know how frustrating it can be. The bad case scenerio you blew your transmission & the gears are locked. Few questions you should ask yourself........ When you step on the brake does the automatic safety release if so it could be as simple burnt out shift wire that needs to be replaced or your shifter itself as was the case in my Magnum. The shifter is very badly designed (Dodge is aware of this) & is made out of plastic which over time doesn't hold up very well. The shifter has a small hook that attaches to a spring which releases the automatic transmission lock if the hook broke the signal is being sent but the spring is no longer releasing your transmission. Try using the backup transmission lock release valve that is on the side of the shifter you will have to remove the coin tray once you do there's a gap with a lever that you push if you still can't shift be sure take it to a transmission specialist
Check your manual for an over- ride switch/my 06 Magnum is doing the same thing/the over ride switch works..
I've heard anywhere for $250 to $409.
Trouble code P1899 means: Park/ Neutral switch stuck in park or gear
A broken spring retainer in the shifter.
Check for a blown fuse.
That's your gearshifter sweetheart.. You may have to replace it. Could also be your transmission.
Stuck in "Park"? check stop light fuse and stop light switch Try turning key to 1st (unlock) position then shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive
The most common cause is a broken spring retainer in the shifter assembly.
In the event the Audi A3 is stuck in park:
same thing happened on my 2008 dodge avenger, dealer said it was due to a part that melted and was replaced under warranty.
Depress brake pedal. On a 2005-2008 there is a spring retainer that breaks inside the shifter.
my Pontiac keeps getting stuck in park
