If you look at the rod bolt NUTS and if a 9/16 socket will fit it, Then it is a large journal. If they are a 1/2 inch, Then it is a small journal.

No the 350 small block will not bolt up to the 3.1L V6. The 3.1 is a 60 degree block V6 and the 350 is a 90 degree block.
Bolt a 400 crank into a 350 block. Doing so DOES require machining to both the block AND crankshaft. In addition to this, you will also need the rods, balancer, and flexplate from the 400. it wants more cam than you'd think.

"small block" typically distinguishes between a 2 bolt and 4 bolt main. (Small block= 2 bolt main. Big/large block=4 bolt main) "long block" typically distinguishes between a rebuilt engine that has heads, rockers, rocker covers, oil pump, pan... in other words, complete, versus just block, crank, cam and pistons (short block).
You could check the block serial number at mortec.com, but it's probably 4 bolt.
350 heads will bolt to the 400 block. They will need to be drilled for the "steam ports" in the 400 block.
