Better Fuel Economy with the four speed due to less RPM at higher mileage as i see the Largest advantages and off course there is other variables depending on what your trying to do .

You should be able to tell my the dial on the shifter. The 3 speed will read PRND21 and the 4 speed with read PRNDD21 have a O around the first D. Also the 2.5 4 cylinder was only available with the 3 speed. The 3.1 V6 came with a 3 or 4 speed and the 3.4 V6 only had the 4 speed automatic. That should narrow it down.
