Purchasing a new vehicle is always exciting, but keeping it looking new is important for its value and condition as well. Here are some great inexpensive ways to keep your car looking new.

Wash It

While it’s obvious that washing your car can keep it looking clean and new, it may not be so obvious that there’s more to it than just soaking it down with the hose every now and then.

For example, if an owner does not fully dry the vehicle after it is washed, rust can accumulate (and usually does) near the part of the vehicle that lies above the tires or edges of the doors. Make sure to wash the vehicle with a light soap. Dawn dish soap placed into a bucket of lukewarm water works really great and is inexpensive since you most likely have a bottle or two on hand under the cupboard. Fully rinse the car with a hose, wash it with a rag along with the Dawn-water solution and then rinse it again. Make sure to get some towels and dry every inch of the vehicle when complete. Again, drying it will avoid rust but can also get rid of water droppings on the windows.

Wax It

If you’re very concerned about the look of their vehicle, wax your car up to once per week. If a synthetic wax is used, you will really only need to wax it once during the year, which is great for those who don’t have time to wax and want to make their cars look immaculate. Otherwise, purchasing the wax and waxing your vehicle each week will do the trick.

Don't Eat in It

Eating in the vehicle is the worst thing an owner can do. Not only does food stink up the car and leave an odor for a few days, but it can cause stains and crumbs to sit in hard to reach areas. A gas station air vacuum is probably your best bet in this case, but save some money on both the vacuum and fast food by avoiding food in the car altogether.

Change Your Windshield Wipers

Rust accumulates on windshield wipers and can wear out quickly, based on rain or if they are constantly wiping snow and ice. Make sure to change the wipers as soon as they begin to look dull - they’re cheap and easy to install yourself.

Armor All

Make sure to purchase some Multi-Purpose Armor All for the interior of your car. Armor All can be purchased with a shiny or matte finish depending on your preference. Whichever sheen you choose, spray and wipe down the dashboard, upholstery, radio and mirrors to leave a great smell that makes the car seem brand new.
