Ceres was discovered on January 1 1801 by Giuseppe Piazzi.

It is the smallest dwarf planet.

It is the only dwarf planet in the Asteroid belt.

It is named after the Roman goddess Ceres, the goddess of growing plants, harvest, and motherly love.

It is too small to see with the naked eye.

The NASA Dawn space probe will explore Ceres in 2015.
