1- check your power cable / power supply
2- check your hardisk connection - power supply, IDE, SATA
3- Make sure you hardisk contains operation system. otherwise, sure it won't boot.
4- check the boot priority list at your BIOS.
5- refer user's manual. if your pc does not boot and there is sound like "beep", you should refer the user's manual. the beep speed can help you to diagnose the pc problem.

there is no way you must buy a usb adapter and boot like so so the pc will detect the hdd this is not my fault if it doesnt work it works for most pc / desktops
