The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE ( when looking from the top )
It's a thread in style IAT sensor , so it has to be threaded into the upper intake manifold somewhere
Rent or buy power steering puller/installer from parts store. you will need to make sure it is a REMOVER and INSTALLER

The 1996 Ford Thunderbird Owner Guide shows the ( Motorcraft FL-400A ) engine oil filter for the 3.8 liter V6 fordparts.com shows the ( Motorcraft FL-400-S ) engine oil filter for the 3.8 liter V6
Get a timing light, they sell them in an auto parts store about 30 bucks, shine it on the surpentine belt, and you should be able to see the mark.
Probably near the passenger side fire wall at the accumulator Large hose Get kit at Wal-Mart or auto parts should have instructions and diagram
1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2 according to the service manual for my 38 Cad.
