Try wiggling the starter solenoid wire. My 91 after so many random starts did/does this and cleaning/tightning the terminal clip works every time.

it should still start but the battery light will come on. and the battery will drain preety fast but nothing a jump star wont fix.

your water temp. sensor is unhooked or the wire is broken (common) it's a "t" shaped 2 wire plug on the thermostat housing
