Mine did the same thing a while back. You'll have to replace the starter if it only starts half the time and clicks the other half (it's only going to get worse with time.) You might wind up with a car that won't start at a bad time if you don't.

I get a single click from the starter but it will not crank what is my problem?

your battery is dead or the starter solenoid

1992 Ford E-350 diesel will not start - batteries starter test good but single click only?

If the battery and starter check out good and you are only getting a single click, the problem lies in the starter solenoid or relay. Not sure where the relay might be but the solenoid is usually where the positive battery from the starter connects to. There are at least two wires at the solenoid - the battery cable and a thin wire. check the remote starter solenoid usually monted on right side of engine bay

When 1997 Saturn sl starter clicks?

The single click, that you hear when the starter switch is operated, is the solenoid making the high tension connection to the starter motor. If the starter motor doesn't turn over, you will need to check both the battery feed to the solenoid and the feed from the solenoid to the starter motor (this is typically a short length of braided cable). I have known this cable to corrode through. If it has, the easiest remedy, is to replace the entire starter motor.

When you start your 1999 caravan you only get a single clicking sound the engine doesn't turn over. The battery is fine. What is the cause the starter?

check the solenoid, and the starter.

Where is the starter solenoid located in Dodge caravan?

The answer below is essentially correct...in relation to a BOSCH starter...If you have a Denso (Nippondenso) starter...the solenoid IS rebuildabe...you can get the part from checker auto..part no ND34SOL, made by Victory Lap...about $17..search the web for photo instructions, and the kit comes with instructions as well.////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////It will be a small cylender attached to your starter. On a 3.3 v6 the solenoid is not rebuildable the starter and solenoid are one unit, average price for a rebuilt is about $90.00,the replacement starter picture shows two side bolts and the top one is a non threaded pin that locates in the top bolt hole of the engine, disconnect the battery first before disconnecting the single lead of the starter.Your problem may be a corroded connection and not the starter, but if you hear a click when you start that's the high current contact in the selonoid and you will have to replace the starter. *Note: Before going through the trouble of crawling under the car to change the starter, try swapping the relay with one of the same part number (like the horn relay) and see if it is bad. This might save you a lot of headache.

How do you tell if starter relay is bad in a 1995 Dodge Spirit?

If a starter relay or solenoid is bad, usually you will only hear a single click when you turn the key to start the engine.

Why does your starter just make a clicking noise?

If it is a single click, the problem is either a loose battery cable or a faulty starter relay/solenoid. If the symptom is rapid clicking, the battery is probaly low.

Your car only clicks once when you try to start engine?

A single click and no response from the starter usually indicates a faulty starter relay/solenoid switch. It could also be a loose connection on the battery cable.

Why would all the lights not work and it just has a single click when trying to start a 1989 mit. mighty max after replacing starter Checked battery and it is good?

A single click usually indicates a fault in the starter relay or solenoid - could also be a loose cable or wire.

2003 ford expedition when you turn the ignition you hear a clickclick sound is that a bad starter?

If it is a single click, the problem lies in the starter solenoid or relay. If it is several clicks in succession, the battery may be low or there may be a loose cable.

92 Chevy truck will not crank It is a 5 speed checked the starter battery both clutch switches ignition switch all are good turn the switch all it does is a single click under the dash why?

Check the fuses and the starter relay.

I get a clicking sound from the the starter solanoid in my 1999 Dodge 2500 Diesel the battery is fully charged How do you fix this?

A single click is perfectly normal, the solenoid is a heavy duty relay. If you get repeated clicking, you should check the connections on the cable, that runs from the Ignition Switch to the solenoid for security. The only other cause of this, is a short in the solenoid winding, so that the magnetic field produced isn't strong enough to hold the switch contacts closed. Most vehicles produced since the 1970's, have Pre-Engaged Starters. These have the solenoid as an integral part of the Starter-motor Assembly. Fixing problems with either the Starter-motor or solenoid, usually involves replacing the whole unit. See http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_know_its_the_starter_that_is_not_working for instructions on how to test the starter circuit components.
