Have the neutral safety switch checked. Try putting the vehicle in Neutral and starting. Also "jiggle" the shifter to see if it'll start.
Have you replaced the battery in the fob?
starter, solonoid, ignition, battery. if it clicks when you turn the key then the battery is really dead or its the starter the battery could still be jumped if its the battery.

To replace the ignition on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. FUSE There is a blue relay (a larger cube than a fuse) in the fudebox near the battery. I replaced it from a salvaged car and it worked again.

Weak battery or alternator output.
Using the ignition key, lock and unlock the drivers door. This resets the car alarm which disables the ignition. The car will now start.
I had this problem on my disco 1. Turned out to be the alternator, which was replaced and the problem was fixed.
