I am not sure what your question is, all I can say is I have been around a long time and have seen this before. Your patient is a chronic alcoholic and the fluid in the abdominal cavity is from the liver, which is probably on its last legs. he will have to be drained [ I say HE but it happens to women too, but not so often.] You will probably get at least 20 ltrs from his drain. He will need to be on a drip. His emaciated appearance comes from years of neglect, he worries about where his next drink is coming from rather than his next meal. Ideally he needs a transplant, but spare livers are rare, and the Med. Prof. do not like giving them to alcoholics, a reasonable argument I think, livers are being blown to pieces faster than they are donated. All you can do is clean him up, dry him out, give him nourishment. Hope for the best, send him back out on the street and hope you never see him again, but experience tells me you will.
Cirrhosis
Yes
Ascites is an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. It can be caused by cirrhosis of the liver. Either of these conditions would render the meat inedible due to toxin build up. Healthy animals produce healthy meat.
No. Cirrhosis is a degeneration of cells, leading to impaired liver function and liver damage. Where as a liver abscess is an accumulation of pus.
Iron supplements, diuretics, and antibiotics may be used for anemia, fluid retention, and ammonia accumulation associated with cirrhosis. Vasoconstrictors are sometimes needed
Tattooing and body piercings because the dye or needles used can carry on HCV infected blood from one customer to another. Needlestick injuries and hemodialysis. Having multiple sex partners.
collateral hyperemic venous blood flow in abdominal wall due to portal cirrhosis of liver for example
What are the symptoms and signs of cirrhosis? Patients with cirrhosis may have few or no symptoms and signs of liver disease. Some of the symptoms may be nonspecific, that is, they don't suggest that the liver is their cause. Some of the more common symptoms and signs of cirrhosis include: * Yellowing of the skin (jaundice) due to the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood * Fatigue * Weakness * Loss of appetite * Itching * Easy bruising from decreased production of blood clotting factors by the diseased liver.
It is cirrhosis without any symptoms
Cirrhosis is the final stage of liver disease (before death). There is only one level of cirrhosis, which is "bad", since cirrhosis is progressive and non-reverisble. The stage before cirrhosis is called "fibrosis", which you could classify is "not as bad".
Once a liver has developed cirrhosis, there is no way to reverse the damage. The only "cure" for cirrhosis is liver transplant.
