I have noticed this strange phenomena with my own cats! Though I am not exactly sure, I will offer my best. There are two types of chirping my cats make. One is in the morning, when I first wake up. He will follow me around making strange quacking sounds or chirps, unlike his usual whiny meow later on. I'm not sure what causes this. The second, which is what I believe you are referring to, is when my cats see a bird/lizard/etc. and make a chirping sound before pouncing on it. So, it's not something particularly unusual; I believe most cats do this.

they 'squawk', but 'to squawk' is a verb.
That depends on what you mean by *chirps*. The whippoorwill's song says, "whip-or-will" making it 3 syllables. Normally it sings this twice in a row. Hope this answers your questions. lowery1101 In the summer whippoorwill's can sing for hours on end without pausing.
They make bird like chirps as warning calls or to find each other when they are lost.
Voles make a small little chirps just like hamsters, guinea pigs, or gerbils.

Cats do not cry like we do. Instead of tearing up, they vocalize.

The correlation between cricket chirps and the temperature is very approximate.
The temperature. You count how many chirps in 15 seconds then add 40 and that's the temperature in degrees Celsius.
Present tense.
