Neon does not glow in the dark but it does glow in black light or UV light. Because neon colors are so bright when illuminated with light, it gives the appearance that neon colors would glow in the dark.No, it is a colourless gas but it will glow red if you pass an electrical current through it.Neon is also another way of describing brightly coloured things, but they don't glow in the dark either.

When you take the plug out of the electric socket the device is still operating and high current flow is still flowing to the load. The white flash is the current flowing through the circuit and then through an air gap you create when removing the plug. The inherent tendency of current in a circuit is to keep flowing once it has started even through the air until the gap is wide enough and resistance high enough to stop the flow. This is hard on the plug and the receptacle as pitting occurs on the plug and receptacles mating surfaces. To cure this problem shut the device off with its own built in switch before disconnecting the device from the power source.
