You can use AutoFit to do it. You can also double click on the boundary between headers of columns or rows to re-adjust the column width or row height to fit the current content.
Autofit Contents is a feature commonly found in spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. It automatically adjusts the size of rows or columns to fit the content within them, ensuring that all text or data is visible without manual resizing. This enhances the readability and presentation of the data, making it easier to analyze and share.
Rows are horizontal and columns are vertical.
Column boundary are single dotted-line boundaries around columns, page margins, and objects.
If you click right between the heading of two columns, when the mouse pointer changes to a double headed arrow, it will trigger an autofit. This will set the width of the column to be equal to the widest contents of a cell in the column. This may mean the column will get wider or narrower.
In Excel, the space between neighbouring columns is fixed. Individual columns can be widened or narrowed. You can also insert a new column between existing columns to increase the gap between them. You can turn off the gridlines so that no column divisions are seen, by going to the Tools menu and then to Options, then View and removing the tick beside Gridlines. That can give the appearance of their being larger gaps between columns.
Format the colun for the width you want. Under the format option, select column width.Put your cursor on the line between the column headings (letters at the top of the window), left-click and drag the column to the width you like.Format the cell for auto-width and the column will automatically adjust to the width of the largest cell entry in the column.
To change uneven columns into more equal lengths, you can use spreadsheet software like Excel or Google Sheets, which offers features such as "AutoFit" to automatically adjust column widths based on the content. Additionally, you can manually set uniform widths for all columns by selecting them and entering a specific measurement. For more advanced adjustments, data manipulation tools or programming languages like Python with libraries such as Pandas can also be employed to format data into consistent column lengths.
