500 n * 1 m = 250 n * x m

x = ( 500 n * 1 m ) / 250 n.m = 2

Then the force must be applied at 2 m from the load. Actually apply this force at this distance will merely balance the load, won't it? To move the load would require either a slightly greater force or moving the 250 n force slightly farther away from the fulcrum.
