If the pH is lowered, the solution becomes more acidic.

It's just like temperature. If something cools down from 1000 degrees to 900 degrees, it is colder, even though the object is still 'hot'. It's hot, but not as hot as it was, so it's colder.

Likewise, if we lower a pH from 7.5 to 7.4, the solution is more acidic. It's basic, but not as basic as it was, so it's more acidic.
