There are several disadvantages of a MLM business. One disadvantage is that a person would have to continually recruit new people to continue making money. Another disadvantage is that a person may recruit somebody that ends up not earning anything. At this point a person has wasted time recruiting a person who is not earning any money.
Charities by definition are non profit. The term comes from the IRS 501 c 3 distinction which allows certain nonprofits to accept charitable donations, meaning donations to the organization are tax deductible. There are other nonprofits that do not have that distinction and are not considered charities. Some charities own for profit subsidiaries or social enterprises, yet the charities themselves are still nonprofit. Some states, have introduced new corporate structures that both benefit society and are for profit, yet they are not charities. Non profit does not mean the agency loses money or has to break even every year and for profit does not mean it has to make money. Some nonprofits earn significant revenue and some for profit companies lose money. Nonprofit is a tax status and charitable is a distinction under that status.
If it is a rich person who donates money, it is called a philanthropist.
On US income taxes, you are allowed to deduct charitable donations if you itemize deductions. There's a specific line on Schedule A for this that's pretty clearly labelled. If you don't itemize, you aren't allowed to deduct charitable donations. You are never allowed to deduct "giving money" in general... it has to be to a legitimately recognized charitable organization. Giving money to a specific person is not deductible; giving money earmarked for a specific person, even if you're technically giving it to a charitable organization, is also not deductible.
