A major victory for the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's was the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The act outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or nationality. It banned voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, stores, restaurants, and the workplace.
