The 29-3 was the first of the M 29 revolvers without the pinned barrel and recessed cylinders. It was transitional to the somewhat heavier lugged "hunting" versions that followed. The 29-3 began to incorporate the "endurance" package that was brought in completely on the 29-4. It was produced from the early 80s through about 87-88.
The Smith and Wesson model 19-5 was made from 1982-1987.
