A problem has been detected with the Anti-lock Brake System . It could be a
fuse , a sensor , or some other problem
As long as the red " BRAKE " light is not on in your dash you still have " normal "
brakes
* my ABS warning light came on suddenly and the first ABS fuse that I
checked was not installed all the way . I touched the fuse with my finger ,
heard a click , and the ABS light went out ( just lucky I guess , but also
suspicious of how that could have happened )
ABS stands for Automatic Braking System. The ABS light in a 1997 Ford Explorer will come on when this braking system is activated.
the abs fuse is under the hood on driver side

They are on the wheels and are held on by bolts.
You have a problem with the ABS & SRS. Have this looked at by a professional. Neither systems are DIY repairs unless you know exactly what you are doing.
means your abs (brakes) NEEDS REPAIR OR SERVICE
I have the same problem on my 1995 Ford Explorer . The ABS kicks in with slow stops on dry pavement . Until the ABS light comes on so a trouble code can be seen I don't know which sensor is causing the problem

If you want to just disable the ABS then you can pull out the fuse for the ABS relay. The only thing is the ABS light will show on the dash.
