According to the Declaration of Independence, the government should protect the rights the people have been given. Should the government fail in this fundamental duty, the people have the right to overthrow the government.
It says if the rights of a people are allienated/violated, it is okay to break away from that government.
It comes from the people, therefore the government should work for the people. If not, people had the right to remove that government.
The thesis of the Declaration of Independence states that any people who are being abused or oppressed by their government has the right and duty to overthrow it and create a new one in its place. It also states that the citizens of America have undergone such abuse by the British government to make it necessary to fight for independence.
