The spirit goes to that place called The Spirit World, where, if they have been righteous will perhaps be given the responsibility of teaching the gospel to those who never had the opportunity to hear it while upon the earth. If they had have done they would have accepted it.
Those who are less righteous will have to wait until the resurrection, they who refused to hear the gospel or were evil in their ways, will remain in what is called the Spirit Prison to await the resurrection, and will, with all other spirits, both good and evil be judged according to their works.
